Fox In The Corn – Footscray

Okay, so the last few posts have been mostly about pizza and pasta. I don’t have a problem, you have a problem if you’re getting sick of Italian food. Sorry, ever since my visit to DOC something within me clicked and I can’t help but find every piece of bread with cheese and tomato sauce within a 20KM radius and devour everything on sight. Which led me to Fox In The Corn, nestled in Footscray not too far from 8Bit. I’m always for more culinary diversity, especially in my neck of the woods. Footscrazy, here we go!

Besides from the local takeaway pizzeria’s not many establishments in Footscray scream pasta and pizza. Originally being a spot for pasta and specially ordered brews – FITC also does 10″ pizzas now too! If you’re going to start churning out pizza and also have pasta on the menu, then… expect a visit from me!

We arrived to a full house and only one table remaining. It was as if they knew we were coming! A good start. FITC offer 10 inch pizzas only so if you’re after anything bigger you may be disappointed. The menu works very simply – choose your pasta (spaghetti or ravioli) and your sauce. FITC is a well oiled machine with orders coming in and out efficiently – I noticed there were quite a few Ubereats orders coming out too.

Highlights:

  • Service: Everyone from the waiter to the owner gave off a relaxed and friendly vibe. Chilled, but still got things done without the pestering most restaurants can be guilty of. The owner also offered complimentary red wine at the end of the night. Score.
  • Pesto Spaghetti: All the spaghetti tasted handmade and had a chew I really liked. I think we all agreed the Pesto was the crowd favourite, not that there’s anything wrong with the other dishes. You can’t really win a race when Pesto is involved. I myself, would’ve liked some kind of protein such as grilled chicken but I’m just a protein junkie. Recommended.

Not-quite-highlights:

  • Braised beef pizza: The pizza base at FITC is thin, chewy and oily but in a good way. The dough isn’t quite as good as DOC, but that being said most pizza’s that are compared to DOC will not fare well. The dough was fine but, we weren’t fans of the braised beef – it tasted out of place and didn’t belong on pizza in my opinion. Perhaps on a bed of pasta?

Fox in the corn was a lovely time, handmade spaghetti, awesome pesto and delicious pizzas. What’s not to love? Oh yes, it’s also in Footscray!
