Pizza is a dime a dozen within the Melbourne CBD, you can’t walk one block without passing by a few margheritas or two. You can grab a greasy slice of unloved bread with questionable cheese or you can go to +39 to satisfy that constant weekly urge to have a whole pizza to yourself. Admittedly, this was my first time here and the excitement was coursing through my veins ready for that hot Italian injection. (cough)
There weren’t any expectations for +39 – sure they had high reviews but we mostly just wanted to stuff our faces with pizza. We always order the Margherita – a must have for any pizzeria, much like you’re obliged to order a bowl of Pho at a Pho place. If their Margherita is masterfully crafted with fresh italian ingredients infused witha crunchy crust… you’re gonna have a good time.
- The Tartufata aka the mushroom pizza is out of this world. +39 has managed to infuse three different forms of mushrooms together, they became best friends and decided to turn into the best mushroom pizza I’ve ever tasted. The distinct mushroom was amplified fivefold by the earthy truffle oil, I think I reached enlightenment and became a mushroom. Highly Recommended!
- The Margherita wasn’t bad by any means but the sauce was noticeably more tangy than DOC‘s rendition. Maybe it was the lack of san marzano tomato’s but the sauce did not have the sweetness I prefer. An enjoyable pizza nonetheless.
- None that I can recall.
At $15 for a Margherita, this is one of the more economically friendly pizza’s in the CBD. That being said, I’d be coming back for the Tartufata (I came back the next day! #guilty) and maybe some of their pasta offerings. Definitely recommended if you want a treat on a Friday, or any day of the week!
