De Grill – Sunshine Plaza

Public Service Announcement!

We have a new place to feed on when we catch on Tightarse-Tuesdays in Sunshine that isn’t Mambos! Rising from the ashes of from the now closed Dick Smith is De Grill (DG).Β  DG proves to a be a mix of modern and trendy, a long overdue injection of fresh air in Sunshine. We do have some promising places opening up soon. (More to come!)

Located right next to KFC and in prime location to lure curious moviegoers, I couldn’t help myself either and came on opening night. We were told there was free coffee (all types) just for that day. Score.

4 Fingers – Elizabeth St [Lunch Crawl]

One of my last meals with Mr. Brunswick because he’s moved onto a new role (Applications open for new Lunch Crawl partner in the Melbourne CBD – apply within, vegetarians preferred).

What a perfect opportunity to sweep the sadness away with hand-painted fried chicken from Singapore. You don’t know therapeutic remedies until you stuff your face with fried chicken pieces until you’re too full to feel emotions.

4 Fingers is a Singaporean fried chicken chain that has rapidly expanded to Australia with 2 outlets in Queensland and one outlet located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. I’ve seen the grams and they were giving away free chicken wings on the first day! Sadly, I was busy inebriating in a dungeon elsewhere.

Phat Chicks – West Footscray

For the longest time the West was missing that little something something. That little ‘Oomph’, or a ‘KAPOW!’ or simply a “BAMF!” that has everyone turning for a double take. West Footscray is an immensely huge cultural tasting plate, largely owing to it’s diverse amalgamation of ethnicities. It’s also a place I call home, a proud foodie of the West!

Barkly Street is quite literally ‘Little India’, that branches off to a slew of famous Vietnamese eateries, local takeaways and a few eccentrically placed midnight kebab trucks for the inebriated and bad decision makers at 2am on a Saturday.

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen – CBD – Russell St

We’re at that time of year again.

Autumn leaves scatter by unpredictable Melbourne winds that grow colder by the day. As the unbearable cold embraces Melbourne with the sniffles, patchy rain and a slew of cough fits, is there a light at the end of tunnel? I’m not a fan of the colder seasons and while Autumn is generally tolerable, Winter in Melbourne has gotten bitterly colder during recent years.

But with the bad, you have the good. To counter the cold, you need heat and with the melting pot that is Melbourne – we got the heat! Hotpot, Pho, Udon, Laksa, you name it and Melbourne usually has it! As an expert IG lurker, Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen (IFR) caught my eye with their bright green Yuzu broth and their generous servings of chicken wings. It’s only right thatΒ  we end of the work week with a hot steaming bowl of Ramen and some chicken wings for good measure.

Brooklyn Depot – CBD – Lonsdale St. [LUNCH CRAWL]

Before I start this review I want to take a second and acknowledge a gentlemen who works at Brooklyn Depot named Scott for his sheer professionalism and the outstanding service he provided. Long story short, I reserve a table for the wrong time and below the minimum people required for a booking yet Scott was still able to sneak us in. This was during the lunch peak, mind you. You’re a legend mate.

Bromance with Scotty a side, I noticed Brooklyn Depot roughly 2-3 weeks ago. It was properly buzzing with the lunchtime crowd despite only recently joining the ranks of numerous eateries in the CBD. Brooklyn Depot has stores in Queensland, New South Wales and now we finally get a slice of the pie in Victoria. With such a drool-worthy menu and a great location for work lunches – you know we had to do a Lunch Crawl.
